I love contemporary art, and I love to experiment with and combine different media while maintaining a playful way of doing things. Taking inspiration from numerous travels, as well as from everyday life, objects, photos or printed material, my works can remain close to the original but often stray quite far.
Another great source of inspiration are the many exhibitions I try to see where ever I am in the world, but especially those in Basel. Art Basel and the Venice Biennale has also been an important source of inspiration for me for years.
Already during my previous professional career, the School of Applied Arts / Schule fuer Gestaltung, Basel, was an important point of reference for me for many years. The regular courses I attended over many semesters laid the foundations for my current artistic work. Later, I was lucky enough to finally study painting with teachers who also generously shared their time, knowledge and skills with me.
All my life I have felt like a learner. And since learning never stops in art, I am happy to go on further journeys of discovery every day in my own studio.
I usually work in larger or smaller series. I try new painting techniques (‘Kaiserstuhl’, ‘Divers’, ‘Something Deep Inside’), work on a specific topic (e.g. ‘Hope’, ‘No Paradise’), play with colors (‘Color Studies’, ‘Left Overs’, ‘Oil Paint Monoprints’), or with variations of the same motif (‘Giants at Play’). Sometimes, I simply work according to rules that I set myself, such as producing a painting or drawing every day (‘Portrait Studies’, ‘Alphabeth of Intimacy’, ‘Daily Sketches’). For me, working in series is a good way of learning and becoming more deeply involved with myself and my art.
I have written exposés for some of these series that roughly explain what I had in mind. There you will also find photos of more works belonging a series. The pdfs are available for download below.
